Markus Schulz at Space Miami March 27th, 2014

A trip to Miami simply isn’t complete without a stop at Space to catch a marathon set by the king of Big Room Progressive Trance Markus Schulz. I was soo bummed to have missed his OTC set at Pacha for his Scream 2 album launch, but there is nothing quite like seeing the trance king of Miami at his home away from home.

With his Scream 2 album less than two months old, a 10 hour set certainly gave the unicorn slayer plenty of time to not only highlight some of his favorites from that album, but also mix in some of his other favorite artists include Beat Service, Nifra, and Ilan Bluestone among others.

But before I get into the set itself, let’s talk a bit about Space Miami. Along with Ice Palace and a few other downtown spots, Space is perhaps the best place to catch a big trance name after spending the day in SoBe, or Ultra. This is especially true when you are staying downtown and want a nice last stop before crashing before your next day. In addition to the Markus open to close set, Space hosted parties by PVD, ATB/Paul Oakenfold, and Gareth Emery’s Drive album launch among others.

Upon my arrival, I caught a little slack at the door because I was kinda still wearing my swim trunks from a crazy day in SoBe, but thankfully since i was covering the event they were gracious enough not to mind. I go there so infrequently I wasn’t quite sure of any dress code since so many people go straight there from Ultra, but I suppose it’s best to leave your beachwear at home!

In any case, I must say the big main room of Space is absolutely perfect for a Markus set. There really isn’t a bad spot in the place to view the booth or to hear the hard hitting progressive sounds of Mr. Schulz. Markus fans are definitely some of the most passionate out there, with a wide array of unicorn outfits and various T-shirts of all colors expressing their love for one of the greats.

Markus dropped a ton of great trance on us that night, starting with a little Aaron Camz, “Emission,” He included a number of tracks from Scream 2, including the opening track “Reloaded,” “Fireworks” ft. Klauss Goulart, “Mango,” and one of my favorites “Destino.” He also blew the room up with one of the tracks of this years WMC, his remix of Capital Cities “Safe and Sound” w/ Grube and Hovsepian.

The huge Arty remix of London Grammar’s “Hey Now” was another crowd favorite, as was the mashup “Remember The Message in the Sky” combining Remember This with Seri’s “Message in the Sky” vocals. Markus also included the tracks “Arcade” and “Undercover” (Markus Schulz Big Room Reconstruction) from one of his favorite Schulz Music Group artists Beat Service.

At one point none other than his fellow New World Punx mate Ferry Corsten took over on the decks for a bit, which was an awesome surprise for me because I was going to leave Miami before Ferry’s Sunday night Full on Ferry set at Mansion so this was my only chance to catch the Digital Punk in action. He put together a set of his signature electro trance… and I believe he dropped a bit of “Loops n Tings” but I can’t confirm that 100%. Markus Schulz Group member KhoMha was another nice surprise behind the decks.

All in all, a fabulous night @ Club Space. Markus truly owns the room there, and his high energy, and passion for the music and his fans shines through there like none other. Super psyched to be seeing him next on April 26th at Mur Mur, Atlantic City!

Till then I bid you peace, love, and trance.
